Edible Landscape

Edible WaterSmart landscapes are created by planting trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals that produce fruit, vegetables, nuts, herbs or other edible parts. With a little planning and proper bed preparation, an edible landscape can be just as lush, beautiful and decorative as a purely ornamental garden. Fruit trees produce beautiful and fragrant flowers prior to setting their fruit. Vegetables and fruits can add the same color impact that has traditionally been accomplished with flowers and can be planted seasonally to provide year-round color and yield. Many herbs produce flowers in addition to their culinary advantages. There are even some surprising plants rarely thought of as having edible parts that can add color, texture and impact to any garden.
